Week 17 July 19, 2011

Dearest Family,

So the transfer bunny did come last week and I have a new companion named Sister Pelfrey! She is from Auburn (Seattle), Washington and is a riot! She is 25 yrs old and didn't really expect to come on a mission but she is so meant to be here. She is an art major and spent a month in PARIS studying art. Crazy eh!? She also spent time in Kenya right before she came to do Humanitarian work. Let’s just say she is a saint. But now I'm back to just the La Jolla Singles so even though she has been out a little longer than me, I'm kind of the senior companion. Weird but it's been fun. I think it finally hit me that I won't see you all for another year and I got a touch of homesickness this week. I'll bounce back for sure! It seems that whenever that happens, Heavenly Father always sends me someone to remind me why I'm here. This time it was a woman named Noona in our ward. She wants to serve a mission but was having the same concerns I had before the mission. We got to talk it out and it helped me remember why I am here and why I love this place so much. It is such a blessing to know that God has got my back. :) Salem is no longer in my area but he is getting BAPTIZED on August 6th so I will be there for sure! Jessica is going through a rough stage because her dad is an alcoholic and is never sober when he is home. He just recently wrecked his bike under the influence and totaled the bike right in front of their home. He has been AWOL ever since and he is all she has so it has been rough on her. We keep trying to explain that she doesn't have to do it alone and that with Jesus Christ, He can help her carry her burdens. I can't wait for her to understand and get baptized but it will be put off for a little while until she is ready. We had another miracle named Megan and she went from being Agnostic to starting to see God in her life. She prays every morning and night now and is reading her scriptures. The sad thing is that she is moving home to Connecticut on July 31 so we probably won't get to see the ending but hopefully she will write us. She teaches me from the scriptures every time we read together. So cool! We are seeing miracles everyday but not great results yet and that sometimes gets frustrating. We will keep trucking on and see what happens! One really cool thing is that I met this amazing family at the Battalion and they gave us free passes to the San Diego Zoo so we are heading there this very second! Time continues to fly every single day but honestly I'm missing you all a lot right now so keep me in your prayers. I love you all so much and think about you every single day.

Love,

Sister Haggerty
