Week 5 April 26, 2011

Hey!

Familia!

Since Dad wants less preaching and more information, I am emailing you all in the form of answering Mom's questions! It should give you the gist of what my life is like! Honestly, I love it here but Easter was a little tough. It seemed like an ordinary day and no one in the Singles Ward fed us or anything. It's sometimes hard to be in a singles ward because it's really hard to find people to teach and they are really rich but they are really nice people as well! We really have to work to get an investigator though when most areas in this mission are rolling in investigators!

Your typical day-

We wake up at 6:30 to work out until 7. We get ready and eat food until 8. Because we are MoBatt sisters it changes on a daily basis. So we either work 9-3 or 3-9 at the MoBatt. If we have the morning off we essentially have to study until noon with the new program. We have an hour of Personal Study, Companion Study, Pilot, and language study for my comp. Then we have a couple of hours to go contacting, visit our investigators, or less active/recent converts aka LARC until we are at the MoBatt at 3. Our area is so huge so a lot of time is wasted driving but the Lord is still providing people for us! If we work the morning then we spend the rest of the day in our area. We have to be very flexible with the MoBatt so it really is unlike any other mission to have ever taken place. We work a lot with the less actives since they are away for college and lost their way a little bit so reactivating is a big focus. We got a new investigator last week!!! The Bishop's daughter Rebecca (Utah State graduate!!) has a friend that just started lessons with us and she is gold! Her name is Molly and she has grown up with Rebecca taking her to seminary and church but her mom is atheist and her dad is a Zhen Buddhist Master so the concept of God is hard for her to grasp. She says that she knows something is missing in her life and she feels whole when she goes to church or hangs out with her LDS friends. She said she will do anything to have that feeling all the time. :) We are pretty excited about her. We also just got a referral that is coming to Mormon Helping Hands (a service project throughout all of California where all the members do a big service project on the same day. We are giving a high school a face lift in our ward and fixing a lot of stuff up!) and wants to learn more about why her uncle served a mission. She really wants to go to church and be a part of the ward so I'm pretty excited about her as well! Mostly, we drive to a place and no one is there so we pray for them, leave, and drive to another referral praying that they will be home! Its long days but so worth it!

How you do meals- Do you cook? Do you bake? Do you have a kitchen with pans and stuff?

We have a full out apartment that are not quite as nice as the district showed but they are fun places to live! Sometimes we cook but not very often. I mostly just make salads or quesadillas to take to eat on break at the MoBatt. We eat on the run most of the time. But yes we have a small kitchen with pans and stuff. Mostly everyone uses a George Forman and the MoBatt to fry sandwiches or tortillas. We live off of those. No worries mom. I am eating a lot of fruit and veggies/trying to be really healthy. I will not get fat on this mission! :0

How do you get money and shop?

We are just given a credit card that only has a certain amount of money a month on it. We can shop anywhere we want to on P-Day. Starting fresh here was expensive but I've gotten it all figured out. I had to buy a pillow and some other stuff but I'm all caught up now!

How is your foot?

Great! President Donaldson makes me wear the boot whenever I'm in my long pioneer dress so it's holding up like a champ.

Your apartment?

Old but pretty well taken care of!

How are your clothes for the weather there?

Perfect! I actually get cold some days so I was glad I had some cardigans as well. Everyone jokes about me being very fashionable and wanting to borrow my clothes so I let them. haha. I get questions a lot about where I buy my clothes. Lauren would be proud. :)

Did you thank President Donaldson for saving your mission?

Of course! It was the first thing I said to him!

How is your skin and hair in the humidity?

So much less dry then before! My curls fall really easy but it still works with a loose curl. My skin and hair just seem so much healthier here but I think it's making me break out as well. Oh well I'm still taking my meds! You can't really notice it unless you are trying to dry something. It takes FOREVER to blow-dry my hair or if you set something out it takes a while to dry. Grandpa mentioned that when he wrote me about his time at boot camp and it is so true. They also double wrap their things like bread so they don't mold super easy. Also, other random fact, California is required to put calories next to their food in restaurants. HOLY COW! Something’s I love are like 1000 calories! Good to know I guess!?

How are your shoes working out?

My shoes are great but the doctor suggested rocker shoes. Like the sketcher ones that are supposed to get you in shape or something. Do you know what I am talking about? I here they have them cheap at Costco that are black so I was going to check it out. Let me know if you see anything like that!

Have you seen anyone else you know?

Not often but I have met some people from Cedar City and I see A LOT of people from Utah at the MoBatt that somehow we always have some sort of connection! There is an Elder whose family moved to Cedar City right before he came on a mission. Elder McCormick, he's our district leader and way cool. I think his family lives out west behind Cross Hollows but I'm not a 100%.

Well we've got to go now to hear an Apostle of the Lord Elder Tom Perry. No big deal. :) So I will let you know how that goes and you will hear more in letters! I love you all so much and think about you all every single day!

Much love,

Sister Haggerty
