Week 6 May 3, 2011

Greetings from San Diego!

Hello Familia!!

Can you believe I've almost been out 2 months!? The days still feel like weeks and the weeks feel like days! Time flies by so much faster in the field instead of the MTC though. I hear you have all been getting hit by snow!? No worries, it's just 84 degrees today in San Diego. :) It's so beautiful!

Here are things that I already love about San Diego:

-Gorgeous flowers that are really bright colors all over the place!

-San Diego Temple that looks like a castle. We had a cute little girl come once that was positive that a princess lives there so her mom wanted to prove her wrong. If only she knew how right her daughter is and the potential we all have to become kings and queens!

-Culture of all kinds! Even though I didn't go to a foreign country, it often feels pretty foreign to me. I still have to adjust sometimes to this culture and I love it! We were fed Vietnamese food at a Relief Society meeting that was noodles (that I have never tasted before) in broth with cow stomach. Yummy.

-We play sports every morning and on P-Day. It feels so good to play Frisbee and soccer. We usually play soccer, b-ball, flicker ball (b-ball mixed with football and ultimate Frisbee haha), at the Old Town park. Sometimes we walk at the Old Town State Park early in the morning.

-Apparently, I can whistle in my sleep. Takes the most talented people for sure! :) Sister Seguin said I was whistling nonsense in my sleep a few nights ago! Crazy!

-Fireworks on the weekends form Sea World that we can see from the tower at the Mormon Battalion.

-One of the Senior Elders couldn't tell that the tour was in Spanish while he was taking an English group at the MoBatt. A lot of the senior elders wear hearing aids. :)

-Michelle's (a lady in my ward who fed us on my first Sunday) engagement story. Spa all day with a massage/Pedi/Mani/hair. Early dinner on the harbor where he tricked her to go to the bathroom and left the restaurant without eating. Walked outside to fin a 40 ft yacht and sailed in the sunset on the gorgeous San Diego ocean with the yacht all decked out. She opened three presents: diamond covered shoes with 2 pairs in case one didn't fit, black gorgeous dress, and scriptures with her first name and his last on the front with my princess on the inside with a scripture marked to just believe and a huge rock of a ring tied on the marker. :)

-Listened to an Apostle of the Lord Elder L. Tom Perry. Wow, he is really tall and yells over the pulpit when he is speaking with the power of God! It was amazing to listen to him and our future mission president Elder Clayton as well. Elder Perry made us a lot of promises if we are faithful and I can't wait to see the work open up even more in San Diego!

-I totally took two General Authorities on a tour with Sister Burden (She was at the MTC with me) Elder Robbins (who gave the "To be or not to be" talk in General Conference) and his wife, Elder Haynie and his wife, President and Sister Donaldson (my mission presidents), Elder and Sister Evans (they run the Mormon Battalion), pretty much all really big deals. Let’s just say that was the most intimidating group we've ever taken yet! We even dressed up Elder Robbins as a soldier. :) They told us we did an amazing job and to not change a thing but that maybe we over did our acting skills for a bunch of adults. Haha We are professional actresses now.

It's amazing how great your life can get when you are doing all of the things that you are supposed to! I've learned so much about forgetting myself and serving the people around me. I have to remember over and over again that I am not here for me but to bring people unto Christ. What an amazing calling! This work is rolling forth in ways that it never has before and I feel very blessed to be a part of it. The Mormon Battalion softens people’s hearts like I have never seen before and they always leave having a greater appreciation for our church. We are the seed planters and often sisters get told stories of people they have taken on tours getting baptized! In fact, a man I took on a tour is getting baptized this month and he came up to me to thank me for taking him on the tour and it helped him to know that the church was true! Such an amazing feeling. Sister Seguin and I can never say enough how happy it makes us to teach people about the gospel and the amazing potential they have to become like our loving Heavenly Father. I've gotten a lot of amazing letters from Grandma and Grandpa. I loved the five dollars grandma and I'll use it for laundry today! They are some of my most faithful writers tied with mom! Thank you so much for all of the letters you have sent me and for keeping me in your prayers. I love you all so much!

The church is true so keep spreading the work!

Sister Haggerty
